The following are highlights of the July 19, 2018, meeting of the Gwinnett County Board of Education (BOE). Board members present included Chairman Carole C. Boyce, Vice Chairman Daniel D. Seckinger, Dr. Mary Kay Murphy, Dr. Robert McClure, and Louise Radloff. The official minutes of the meeting will be approved by the Board at its next monthly meeting.
Vulcan Materials gives back to area schools
Vulcan Materials Company hosted a Quarry Crusher Run at its Norcross Quarry on May 5, 2018, with proceeds benefiting Meadowcreek Elementary School, Radloff Middle School, Meadowcreek High School, and Boys and Girls Clubs of Gwinnett County. A total of 743 runners participated in this year's race, surpassing the number of runners from the previous two years. Representatives from Vulcan Materials and Gateway 85 Gwinnett presented a check totaling $24,049.54 to the three GCPS schools at tonight's School Board meeting, providing funds that will support numerous programs at the three schools..
Collins Hill High School's field house activity room named in honor of Ramos
The Board of Education approved a request from the Collins Hill High School community to rename the school’s activity room in honor of longtime wrestling coach Cliff Ramos. Coach Ramos is one of the most successful wrestling coaches in Georgia and perhaps in the nation. During his tenure at Collins Hill his teams won five traditional state championships, 4 dual state championships, and 33 individual state championships.
