Georgia Alternate Assessment

The GAA is a portfolio of student work that enables the demonstration of achievement and progress relative to selected skills. The portfolio is used to capture student learning and achievement/progress in four content areas: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Who?

Special Education students with significant cognitive disabilities in K-12.

Results

Students receive scores for each subject area. The score will indicate whether or not they have passed. Score(s) of "Established (level 2)" and "Extending (level 3)" are considered passing.

Kindergarten assembles a portfolio for English/Language Arts and Math. Grades 3-8, 11 assemble a portfolio for: English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

No.

Only special education students in high school seeking a regular education diploma are required to pass for graduation.

Special education students seeking a special education diploma are not required to pass for graduation.

Need a Retest?

ONLY students in High School seeking a regular education diploma may retest in content area(s) which they did not receive a proficent score. Students seeking a Special Education diploma are not required to retest.
