The Department of Curriculum and Instruction leads the development and effective implementation of a world-class curriculum through the Quality-Plus Teaching Strategies. The department promotes the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum, supports instruction and assessment of the AKS through a variety of instructional resources, and facilitates professional learning for teachers and staff.
Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Curriculum and Instruction Department houses the curriculum offices that lead and support systemwide instruction and assessment of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS).
Support for Teachers and Schools
The role of the Curriculum & Instruction Department is to support schools in the development of quality curriculum and the most effective instructional practices. Each student has a right to expect an educational program that provides for the achievement of knowledge and skills necessary for success in college and career. The services of the Curriculum & Instruction Department are fundamental components in providing a quality program for each of Gwinnett County's students.
The Curriculum & Instruction Department supports teachers and schools through efforts such as the following:
- facilitating development, adoption, and review of the Academic Knowledge and Skills curriculum standards
- working with teachers and schools to support instruction and assessment of the AKS through a variety of resources
- facilitating instructional materials review and adoption
- providing professional development opportunities
