Jones Middle Art takes 3rd in Scarecrow Competition

The Jones Middle School Art Club created two scarecrows for the Atlanta Botanical Gardens’ annual “Scarecrows in the Gardens” exhibit. The scarecrows were displayed at the Gainesville location during the month of October, 2017. The scarecrow in the picture, Roy G. Biv, won 3rd place out of the 25 submitted projects! Congratulations to Allison Lawrence and her students at Jones Middle School!


Emma Babushkin wins 10th Congressional District Art Award

The Congressional Art Awards is an art competition held in every congressional district across the country. 

The winner of Georgia's 10th Congressional District is Mill Creek student Emma Babushkin.Emma's artwork will be on display in the Cannon Tunnel at the US Capitol Building in Washington, DC for a year. She also won 2 plane tickets to attend the Awards Ceremony at the US Capitol this summer.

Design by Rebecca Pearson Selected for State Diploma Seal

Rebecca Pearson, student of Yvette Kim at North Gwinnett High School, designed the new Georgia Department of Education Diploma Seal for the Fine Arts. This seal is a signal to employers that Georgia students are ready to become part of the creative economy of our state and places an emphasis on the importance of a fine arts education for students. The seals will be presented to more than 2000 graduating Georgia Seniors. The seal design Rebecca created and Ms. Kim oversaw will be a beacon for arts education in our state for years to come.

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Displays Grayson Elementary Art

Students from Grayson Elementary School have been selected to have their artwork on display at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s new Urgent Care location in Hamilton Mill. Joseph Jones, Cate Matthews, Riley Ayers, Charlotte Self, Graham Banks, Cameron Williams, Hope Loyd, Jazmine Hyaurth, and Lexi Vierra all have works displayed there. Brookwood Student Wins First Place in Georgia Photography Competition

Brookwood Students earn National Medals in Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

The National Medals in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2017 have recognized (Lto R). Paul Ashley (11th grade) with a National Gold Medal for his work entitled, City Nights and Anna Montgomery (11th grade) and Savannah Lee (11th grade) with National Silver Medals. These students have been recognized as among the most talented young artists and writers in the nation. This year, more than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted for the annual contest. Only the top 1% were recognized at the national level.

GSMST Takes Top Honor at All State Art Symposium

On Saturday, February 25, 2017, students from all over the state competed at the All State Art Symposium hosted at Columbus State University. GSMST Senior, Allison Chan, took the top NAHS honor with winning the prestigious Helen Flemming Stone Scholarship. This is the second year in a row that GSMST and the art students under Teacher Jennifer Prince have taken this honor!

Teacher Recognized as National Middle Level Art Teacher of the Year

The National Art Education Association has named Aimee M. Burgamy, of Lilburn, GA, to receive the 2016 National Middle Level Art Educator of the Year Award. This prestigious award, determined through a peer review of nominations, recognizes the exemplary contributions, service, and achievements of one outstanding NAEA member annually at the National level within their division. The award was presented at the NAEA National Convention in Chicago, IL, March 17-19, 2016.

NAEA President Patricia Franklin states, "This award is being given to recognize excellence in professional accomplishment and service by a dedicated art educator. Aimee Burgamy exemplifies the highly qualified art educators active in education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars, and advocates who give their best to their students and the profession."

NAEA is the professional association for art educators. Members include elementary, secondary, middle level and high school art teachers; university and college professors; education directors who oversee education in our nation’s fine art museums, administrators and supervisors who oversee art education in school districts, state departments of education, arts councils; and teaching artists throughout the United States and many foreign countries.
