All employee benefit-eligible employees are offered various retirement plans, including Gwinnett Retirement System (GRS), Teachers Retirement System (TRS), and Public Schools Employee Retirement System (PSERS).
Gwinnett Retirement System (GRS) - All benefit-eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the Gwinnett Retirement System. GCPS withdrew from the Social Security system in 1983 and developed GRS as an alternative for GCPS employees. This plan provides a retirement income to supplement an employee's applicable state retirement program. Retirement benefits are 100% funded by the Gwinnett County Board of Education. (Members contribute 1% of earnings for Long Term Disability insurance.) Employees are vested after ten years of service.

Teachers Retirement System (TRS) - Any certified position, administrator, clerical worker, paraprofessional, head custodian, lead driver, transportation supervisor, or school nutrition manager must enroll in the Teachers Retirement System, a state retirement plan. Employees are vested after 10 years of service.

Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) - Employees holding any of the following positions: school food nutrition assistant, custodian, groundskeeper, or bus driver must enroll in the Public School Employees Retirement System state retirement plan. Employees are vested after 10 years of service.
