Couch Middle School has earned the Breakout Middle School designation from the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP). The Breakout Schools Award is designed to identify, recognize, and showcase Georgia middle schools that are high achieving or dramatically improving student achievement. The annual award recognizes outstanding middle schools based on collaborative leadership; personalization; and curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Couch Middle School Principal Devon Williams says it’s an honor to be one of only seven schools recognized by GASSP. He adds, “This award helps to validate the daily work we do to help our students reach their highest level of success. It makes us proud that we were recognized, and it gives us extra energy to continue to improve our practice.”
Williams will accept the honor and financial award on behalf of Couch Middle and the school district at the GASSP Fall Conference next month in Savannah. “Over the years, there have been quite a few Gwinnett schools recognized as Breakout Schools, and I believe our focus on becoming a system of world-class schools is a big part of our success. The work that each of the recognized schools does is really just part of our system’s best practices, and, with this award, the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals affirms that some really good work is being done in the district,” Williams said.
