Kirk Barton, top, and Matt McDonald

Two Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) athletic administrators recently earned recognition from the Georgia Athletic Directors Association (GADA). Kirk Barton, Norcross High School’s athletic director, is the GADA Class AAAAAAA Athletic Director of the Year and Matt McDonald, the athletic director at Lanier High School, is the Class AAAAAA Athletic Director of the Year.

Ed Shaddix, GCPS athletics director, says the honors are well deserved. “Kirk is a veteran educator with great knowledge and experience and a wonderful ability to relate with students. In addition to leading a successful program at Norcross High, he supports all athletic directors in the school district with his leadership and through the relationships he’s developed over time in Georgia High School Association,” Shaddix said. “Matt on the other hand is a young, aggressive athletic director. He works diligently to support all the students, coaches, and programs at Lanier High School. His work ethic, focus, and desire to improve are his greatest strengths.
We are lucky to have both Matt and Kirk in GCPS.”
