Student media project head to state competition

GCPS student media projects among best in state

March 10, 2020

Judging from this year

A select group of media projects created by Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students will soon compete against projects from students across the state at the Georgia State Media Festival. The students and their media projects earned a spot to compete at the state level by receiving a qualifying score in the GCPS Student Media Festival. Projects scoring a 96 or above qualified for the state festival, which will be held in Macon on April 24

The GCPS Student Media Festival celebrates the talent and vision of student digital media producers from schools across the county. The festival is coordinated by the GCPS Broadcast and AV Media Department, which operates GCPSTV, and is supported by media specialists, teachers, administrators, industry professionals, local businesses and community members. More than 35 media specialists, Local School Technology Coordinators, Audio Visual Technology and Film teachers, and other GCPS staff members gathered to judge the 205 projects— representing 500-plus student media producers— submitted to the festival this year. Production categories included Live Action, Animation, Sequential Stills, Interactive Stills, Website, and Podcast.

As part of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ celebration of these budding filmmakers, select video projects will be screened at the GCPS Student Media Festival Showcase on March 17, 2020, at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center, 437 Old Peachtree Rd. NW in Suwanee. It might not be the Oscars, but the event provides students with the red-carpet treatment as family and friends celebrate their “big-screen” accomplishments.
