Beaver Ridge Elementary secures grant… needs community’s help to bring new playground to life

October 6, 2017

Beaver Ridge Elementary School is half way to achieving its quest for an updated playground and needs the community’s help to make it a reality. The school has won a grant from KaBOOM but must raise funds to help cover the cost of the new playground. The school needs to raise $8,500 by October 16 in order to secure the KaBOOM playground community build grant. If Beaver Ridge Elementary meets its fundraising goal, KaBOOM and Newell Brands will provide the school with an $85,000 grant which will go toward the playground rebuild.

Karen Lillard, principal at Beaver Ridge Elementary, is very excited saying “I am so happy and grateful that we won the grant from KaBOOM. Raising the additional money won’t be easy, but we are hopeful that our community will continue to support us.” For more information on how to help Beaver Ridge Elementary reach its fundraising goal, visit the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation at: www.gcps-foundation.org.

In addition to raising money, Beaver Ridge Elementary is also required to recruit students, staff, and community members to do the physical work needed to rebuild the school’s playground. On Tuesday, September 26, students, staff, and community members met with representatives from KaBOOM to design the playground and pick the equipment that will be installed. The Community Build Day is November 15, starting at 8 a.m.

KaBOOM is a national non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together parents, advocates, and Community and National Partners to ensure that kids have the opportunity to play every day, everywhere.
