On Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Berkmar High School will host its 2nd annual Patriot Day, a celebration of kindergarten through 12th grade students in the Berkmar Cluster and what they have achieved over the year. The event, which will take place in the front parking lot of the high school, will feature food, games, a bouncy house, face painting, art swaps, the K-12 Spring Arts Festival, the closing ceremony to Berkmar High’s yearlong 50th Anniversary Celebration, and the dedication of the school’s time capsule.
Patriot Day will feature plenty of activities for students and their families.
All of the cluster’s schools will be represented; Berkmar High school, Berkmar Middle School, Sweetwater Middle School, and Bethesda, Corley, Hopkins, Kanoheda, and Minor elementary schools. Each school will have students performing during the K-12 Spring Arts Festival and artwork created by students in all grades will be on display. The Berkmar High Media, Arts, and Communications Academy also will host a screening of films written and produced by students.
Berkmar High’s Principal, Dr. Al Taylor, will lead the dedication ceremony for the time capsule which will contain letters, memorabilia, a DVD with video messages and a DVD player to view it. The capsule will be buried at a later date with strict instructions not to open it until the school’s 100 year anniversary in 2066, giving future Patriots a glimpse into the lives of their predecessors from 2016-2017.
