On Wednesday, September 25, the Grayson High School Technical Education Program will celebrate the unveiling of a newly constructed surgical suite and partnership between its Veterinary Science program and the Veterinary Technology Program at Gwinnett Technical College. An open house will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Grayson Technical Education Program is located on the campus of Grayson High School, 50 Hope Hollow Road in Loganville.
The new surgical site will serve as a location for elective procedures, such as spaying and neutering. The Gwinnett County Animal Shelter will supply all the patients for surgery, and once the patients recover, they will be available for adoption. Gwinnett Tech veterinarians will perform all surgeries and Gwinnett Tech Veterinary Technology students will practice skills such as venipuncture, catheter placement, surgical prep, and recovery procedures.
The Grayson High School Technical Education Program students will shadow the Gwinnett Tech students, learning the curriculum and performing veterinary assisting skills, such as obtaining vital signs and record keeping. This experience will provide the high school students with hands-on experiences before they begin their 15-week internship while also providing the Gwinnett Tech students the opportunity to master the skills required for graduation and state licensure.
