Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology: Registration for 2017-2018 freshman class underway

November 21, 2016

Gwinnett County 8th graders interested in attending the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST) next year are invited to learn more about the school’s enrollment process. Information for the 2017-18 freshman class is available at all GCPS middle schools and on the district’s website (, as well as on the school’s web site ( The lottery process is open to all current 8th grade students who complete 8th grade promotion requirements, who reside in Gwinnett County (outside the city limits of Buford), and who satisfy minimum requirements in 8th grade Algebra.

GSMST is holding three Parent Informational Meetings on the GSMST campus. The first of these meetings was held on November 15 for 8th graders attending middle school in the Archer, Brookwood, Dacula, Grayson, Mill Creek, Mountain View, Parkview, Shiloh, and South Gwinnett clusters. On Tuesday, December 13, the school will hold another meeting at 7 p.m., specifically for students from the Berkmar, Central Gwinnett, Collins Hill, Discovery, Duluth, Lanier, Meadowcreek, Norcross, North Gwinnett, and Peachtree Ridge clusters. The final informational meeting will be held on January 12 at 7 p.m. for anyone who was unable to attend the first two meeting dates.

Gwinnett County parents of 8th graders who are currently not enrolled in a GCPS middle school may attend any of the meetings at GSMST to learn more about this educational option. All three lottery registration steps must be completed by the deadline, Friday January 20, 2017, at 4 p.m. All eligible students will receive a lottery number for the random lottery drawing which will take place on Monday, January 30, 2017, at 7:30 a.m. in the Board Room at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center (ISC) located at 437 Old Peachtree Road in Suwanee, Georgia. The school will accept 375 students for its 2017-18 freshman class.

GSMST offers students an opportunity to study in three broad areas of focus: bioscience, engineering, and emerging technologies. The rigorous and accelerated course work at GSMST may not meet the needs or interests of all students. As this is a school of choice, it is highly recommended that parents and students review the GSMST curriculum and learn more about the school’s offerings before making a decision to register for the lottery.
