Gwinnett County 8th graders interested in attending Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST) next year are invited to learn more about the school’s enrollment process. Information for the 2019-20 freshman class is available at all GCPS middle schools and on the district’s website (www.gcpsk12.org), as well as on the school’s web site (www.gsmst.org). The lottery process is open to all current 8th grade students who complete 8th grade promotion requirements, who reside in Gwinnett County (outside the city limits of Buford), and who satisfy minimum requirements in 8th grade Algebra.
On Tuesday, December 11, at 7 p.m., GSMST will host an information session for rising 9th grade students and their families. The final information meeting will be held on Thursday, January 10, at 7 p.m. In addition to parents of current GCPS students, parents of 8th grade students who live in Gwinnett County but who are not enrolled in a GCPS middle school may attend the meetings to learn more about this educational option.
GSMST registration for next school year is open through January 25. All eligible students who register will receive a lottery number for the random lottery drawing which will take place on Monday, February 4, 2019, at 7:30 a.m. in the Board Room at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center (ISC) located at 437 Old Peachtree Road in Suwanee, Georgia. The school will accept 375 students for its 2019-20 freshman class.
GSMST offers students an opportunity to study in three broad areas of focus: bioscience, engineering, and emerging technologies. The rigorous and accelerated course work at GSMST may not meet the needs or interests of all students. As this is a school of choice, it is highly recommended that parents and students review the GSMST curriculum and learn more about the school’s offerings before making a decision to register for the lottery.
