The State Farm Foundation and Nordson Foundation awarded Lanier High School grants totaling $15,000 and $2,500, respectively, to spotlight the school’s commitment to STEM education. The grant from State Farm will be used to bolster the robotics program at the school’s Center for Design and Technology. The Nordson Foundation grant will be used to establish a clusterwide robotics tournament at Lanier Middle School.

Lanier High School was selected to receive the grants based on its academic reputation and top performances by students in computer science and robotics competitions, as well as its use of products such as Autodesk Engineering software. The Center for Design and Technology (CDAT) at Lanier High, recognized in 2016 by the Technology Association of Georgia for exemplary instruction, anchors a K-12 Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) focus in the cluster and has inspired innovative instruction at all levels. (The CDAT Program is state-STEM certified and in 2016 White Oak Elementary School, a feeder school for Lanier High, became the first state certified STEM elementary school in Gwinnett County. In addition, the Lanier Cluster is a past recipient of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Innovation & Transformation Award for its success with STEM classes and Project Based Learning.)

Established in 1963, the State Farm Companies Foundation provides support for key initiatives and scholarships, as well as, associate-directed programs.

The Nordson Corporation Foundation supports programs in the communities where it operates and draws employees. Since 1989, the Foundation has awarded over $50 million in grants nationwide. The Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation Fund, Inc. is a nonprofit 501C3 charitable organization benefitting Gwinnett County Public Schools.
