Mayor from “across the pond” to make special visit to Parkview High School

September 20, 2018

The Lord Mayor of the City of Westminster in the United Kingdom is scheduled to visit Parkview High School on Tuesday, September 25, at 6 p.m. Councillor Robert Davis is making the appearance to personally invite the Parkview Marching Band to play in London’s 2020 New Year’s Day Parade. The parade, which started in 1987 with 2,000 mostly local performers, now involves up to 10,000 performers from around the world and a live TV audience of several hundred million.

Each year in the fall, the Lord Mayor decides upon a select number of groups that he or she wishes to visit in the United States in connection with London’s New Year’s Day Parade and Festival. The visit from the Lord Mayor is designed to inspire and reconfirm the importance of the invitation to groups already invited, or to render invitations to participate in future events. The Parkview Marching Band is scheduled to perform for Councillor Davis after he tours the school. Immediately following the performance, Davis will officially deliver the invitation to London’s New Year’s Day Parade.

The Lord Mayor of Westminster, who is appointed annually and serves for one year, is considered the first citizen of the city of Westminster and is host to London’s New Year’s Day Parade and Festival. Westminster, where the parade takes place, is home to both the elected Government, (The Houses of Parliament) and the head of State (Buckingham Palace), of The United Kingdom.
