2018 marks 4th year for baseline concussion test

GCPS and Gwinnett Medical Center team up for baseline concussion testing

January 26, 2018

On Saturday, January 27, from 9 a.m. to noon, Gwinnett Medical Center and the Concussion Institute will host the 4th annual Concussion Baseline Day at several Gwinnett schools. This year Norcross High School, Brookwood High School, and North Gwinnett High School will serve as testing sites in Gwinnett County for anyone ages 12 and up. Baseline testing at the schools is free.

Concussions are a serious type of brain injury caused by a jolt, blow, or a simple bump to the head that changes the way the brain normally works. This special event allows participants to take a test that establishes a baseline profile of how the brain functions pre-injury which is imperative in diagnosing and treating concussions. Participants will learn about concussions and baselines, complete the baseline testing, and finish with an informative Q&A session. For more accurate results, exercise is not recommended three hours prior to the test.

In all, there are 16 sites in Gwinnett and Forsyth counties taking part in this event. To register for the free test, visit Testers ages 5 – 11 can also register online. Advance registration is recommended due to limited seating.
