27 Gwinnett schools recognized by state

Gwinnett schools honored by state for high academic performance and growth

January 13, 2020

The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) has recognized more than two dozen Gwinnett County public schools for high academic performance and/or high academic growth. Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) led the state with 27 schools named as 2019 SSAS (Single Statewide Accountability System) award winners

Dr. Steve Flynt, associate superintendent for School Improvement and Operations, applauds the work of the honored schools. He said, “These awards are a point of pride for these school communities as they speak to the quality teaching and learning taking place and the achievement of their students.”

GOSA used College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) data from the three most recent school years to determine SSAS awards in two categories: Greatest Gains and Highest Performing. Each award category has four tiers: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Schools in the “Greatest Gains” category exhibited high growth in student achievement by earning a three-year average CCRPI Progress Score in at least the 93rd percentile in the state. Additionally, these schools remained in the same CCRPI Single Score range over the last three years and were not on GOSA’s Turnaround Eligible Schools List and GaDOE’s list for Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI)/Targeted Support and Improvement.

Schools in the “Highest Performing” category exhibited high academic performance by earning a three-year average CCRPI Content Mastery Score in at least the 93rd percentile. In addition, the three-year average CCRPI Closing Gaps Score for these schools was at or above the 75th percentile in the state. Schools honored at the Platinum or Gold award tiers earned a CCRPI Single Score of 90.0 or above in all three years, while Silver and Bronze award winners had a minimum CCRPI Single Score of 80.0 for all three years. Honored schools also were not included on GOSA's Turnaround Eligible Schools List and GaDOE's CSI/TSI lists.

Award winners will receive a certificate and banner to display in their schools. The list of GCPS schools recognized appears as follows:
