Meadowcreek High School and the Rotary Club of Gwinnett are working together in the name of peace. Members of the school’s Interact and Environmental Club, school faculty and Rotary Club members teamed up to create a Peace Pole.

Peace Poles are hand-crafted monuments that display the message and prayer “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in different languages on each of the pole’s four sides. Students decided the message should be written in English, Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese in honor of Meadowcreek High’s diverse student body. The school recently hosted a dedication ceremony in honor of the display.

Ni Za Vang, the Interact Club President, said she is proud of what the Peace Pole represents. “The Peace Pole is an internationally recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of future generations which is in line with our vision of coming together for a brighter future,” Vang said.

Rodney Brundidge, Gwinnett Rotary Club member, echoed Vang’s thoughts adding, “Each day we should strive to teach our youth the importance of inclusion and how it can build up communities rather than destroy them,” Brundidge said. “The Peace Pole Project provides our youth this invaluable opportunity to recognize their differences while achieving a common goal --- to promote peace and love.”

The Peace Pole Project was founded in 1975, in Japan, by Masahisa Goi author of the Universal Message and Prayer, May Peace Prevail On Earth, and founder of The World Peace Prayer Society. The Peace Pole is an internationally recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth.

Rotary is an international organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service and encourages high ethical standards in all vocations.
