Simonton Principal Clifton Alexander stands with students and technology tools donated to the school

Students at Simonton Elementary School will soon have greater access to online and computer-based educational resources thanks to the Computers for Learning (CFL) program. The CFL recently donated 171 Dell laptops to the school which will be used to support Simonton Elementary’s “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) initiative, as well as serve as a resource for its instructional workshops and community engagement efforts.

Clifton Alexander, principal at Simonton Elementary, is grateful for the donation. “It’s a game changer for our students and teachers,” Mr. Alexander said. “Having greater access to technology that can have a positive impact on teaching and learning brings the outside world into our building in a very modern, accessible way.”

The CFL program’s ambitious goal is to make modern computer technology an integral part of every classroom so that every child has the opportunity to be educated to his or her full potential. The CFL program allows schools and educational nonprofit organizations to view and select the computer equipment that federal agencies have reported as excess.

“Greater access to technology will expand the walls of our school to invite in virtual experiences that our students may not typically be able to access in their daily lives.  Our students also will be able to use technology as a means of demonstrating their academic knowledge and skills in a variety of assessment types that will complement a diverse range of learning styles,” Mr. Alexander said.
