    Welcome to the 2017-18 school year!
    Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) welcomed students back on Mon., Aug. 7. It's a new year with new faces and initiatives... new students, new teachers, new programs, and new lunch items. Learn more about the new school year online.   
    New leaders in new places
    Thirteen GCPS schools have new leaders at the helm this school year:

  • GCPS launches rapid notification system
    SchoolMessenger logoSchoolMessenger is a rapid notification system used to contact families in the school district via telephone messages, text messages, and email messages. The district will use the system to communicate information related to districtwide events, including key school dates and school closings due to inclement weather. Parents and guardians have the ability to customize messaging preferences. Learn more about SchoolMessenger and review these frequently asked questions. If you have not opted in to receive texts on your mobile phone yet, it's easy! Just send a text with "Y" or "Yes" to 67587. (The mobile phone must be listed in your student's contact information on the Parent Portal.)   
    Welch named finalist for
    National Principal of the Year
    Dr. Tommy Welch of Meadowcreek High
    Dr. Tommy Welch, principal of Meadowcreek High School, has been named as one of three finalists for 2018 National Principal of the Year. We congratulate Dr. Welch and Meadowcreek High School on this latest honor! The National Principal of the Year will be announced in October. 
    Café Gwinnett plans nutritious year ahead!
    Café Gwinnett, GCPS' award-winning school nutrition program, provides tasty, nutritious meals to students at an economical price. Unlike prices at the grocery store and local restaurants, school meal prices remain the same this school year. Learn more about the exciting meal options available in the district's 132 cafeterias this year and the changes in the district's meal charge procedures
    Last chance... GCPS accepting applications
    for GEMS Oversight Committee
    Aug. 25 is the deadline to apply for the GEMS Oversight Committee, a group of community and school system representatives charged with the annual review of GCPS' Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 2, 2017.    
    Plan to participate in 
    instructional resources review Science books
    Between Sept. 5 and Oct. 6, the public is invited to participate in the district's Instructional Resources Public Review. The review will include proposed student and teacher resources for Science for grades 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. Online, find dates and times for the review, which will be held at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center (ISC).  
    On the road, at bus stops, and in crosswalks... bus rules keep kids safe
    Duluth students board buses A new school year is the perfect time for a refresher on school bus safety. Online, learn school bus safety tips and visit the Transportation web page for FAQs, transportation contact numbers, and other helpful information. If you need to brush up on the rules of the road when it comes to a stopped school bus, check out these tips and this video.  
    65+ Gwinnettians get free pass for sports, fine arts eventsStudent theater and athletics
    Are you 65 years of age or older and a resident of Gwinnett County? We've got your ticket to GCPS fine arts and athletic events. And, it's free! You can use your Senior Pass to enter any GCPS-sponsored athletic or fine arts event-- from football games and track meets to school plays, recitals, and concerts. (The passes are not valid for region or state competitions.) Call 678-301-7274 with questions. Learn more about the Senior Pass in the GCPS TV video. 
    GCPS now hiring drivers 
    GCPS is now accepting applications for school bus drivers! The hourly wage for drivers is competitive, and bus drivers have excellent benefits and paid training as well as summer vacation and holidays off. Qualifying candidates can earn credit for past commercial driving experience (CDL). Applicants are required to hold a good driving record and a high school diploma or GED.     For your calendar...   Time flies... and so do the days
  • All GCPS schools and offices will be closed for Labor Day on Mon., Sept. 4.
  • The Gwinnett County Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thurs., Sept. 14, at 7 p.m., at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center.
  • Sept. 27-28 are early-release days for K-8 students. Check out this tipsheet on parent-teacher conferences.
