2017 Gwinnett County Regional Science, Engineering + Innovation Fair: Inspiring the next generation of science and engineering leaders from the classroom to career

     The Gwinnett County Regional Science and Engineering Fair celebrates its
39th anniversary with participation from 101 schools including representation from
all 19 Gwinnett school clusters, two GCPS special entities, and six other non-GCPS
schools that operate in Gwinnett County. The 2017 Gwinnett County Regional
Science, Engineering + Innovation Fair will occur on Friday, February 24, 2017,
at the Infinite Energy Center (formerly the Gwinnett Center) in Duluth.
are welcome to attend the Project Exhibit which begins at 4 p.m. and is open to the
public. There will be two awards ceremonies held this year to honor this year’s top
projects. The ceremony for students in grades 3-5 is scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.,
while students in grades 6-12 will be recognized from 8 to 9 p.m.

     The sponsors for this year’s gathering of science learning include Georgia Campus
- Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM), Jackson EMC,
Broadcom MASTERS, Brace Family Foundation, Chick-fil-A Foundation, Merial,
Gwinnett Angels, GCPS Foundation, GCPS TV, Gwinnett Medical Center, ACEC of
Georgia, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, McFarland-Dyer & Associates, Mobile
Communications, Environmental & Heritage Center, and Nordson.

     This year, more than 650 projects which had won first place at the local school
level will be on display, representing the best of student research. These projects,
representing the creativity and innovation of more than 865 students, will be judged
by Georgia professionals and scientists who will assess them on scientific quality,
accuracy, creativity, and experimental design.

     The high school and middle school students who earn first place at the district
level competition will move to the next round— the Georgia Science and
Engineering Fair— which will be held in Athens, Georgia, March 30 – April 1, 2017.
The top projects then qualify for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair,
May 14-19, 2017 in Los Angeles, California
