On Monday, April 17, Berkmar High School’s Entrepreneurship and Leadership Academy will host its 2nd Annual Young Entrepreneur’s Shark Tank Scholarship Competition. The event, taking place from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., will be held in the school’s media center.
Students from two of Berkmar’s entrepreneurship and marketing classes have been preparing for the past three months for this highly anticipated competition. A total of eight participants representing either a sole proprietor (one student) or a partnership (two students) will each be given five minutes to pitch their business plans to local business leaders in hopes of convincing them that their proposal is worthy of investment. The contestants, students in grades 10-12, are second year students in either the Marketing Management or Business and Administration Career pathways. This year’s Shark Tank event is highly competitive due to an increased number of participants, community partnerships, and sponsorships.
Due to the generous sponsorship by community businesses and organizations like Christopher Solorzano of American Family Insurance and the Lilburn Business Association, the winning team will receive a scholarship totaling up to $500. The scholarship will help the winning students launch their proposed businesses or continue their education in college.
The competition, which better prepares students to start their own business or prepare them for careers in marketing and business, will provide students with valuable business advice, insight, and potential mentorships from professionals who are part of the community partnerships the school shares with organizations like the City of Lilburn and Lilburn Community Partnership.
