Gwinnett middle school holds pep rally to celebrate summer reading: Reading is fundamental and fun at Trickum Middle School

August 30, 2017

On Thursday, August 31, from 9:20 a.m. to 9:50 a.m., Trickum Middle School will host a summer reading pep rally celebrating students who read over the summer.  Last May, the Trickum Media Center hosted a summer reading extravaganza which shared information about summer reading programs and ramped up excitement about reading during the summer months.

Summer slide statistics say that students who read four or more books do better when it comes to reading comprehension upon return to school in the fall. With that in mind, Trickum Middle School encouraged its students to read four or more books over the summer in order to make them eligible for rewards. Those who did so have been invited to participate in the reading pep rally with students on each grade level having a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card. Students who read six or more books over the summer will have a chance to win a $125 Amazon gift card.

To date, nearly 250 students have turned in their reading logs, logging in four or more books read during the summer break. In fact, one student read 30 books.

The summer reading pep rally will feature cheerleaders, the school mascot, and game-day music. In addition, each summer reader will receive an ice cream and a bag of goodies for reading this summer.
